Each dose of NexGard Spectra provides comprehensive protection for 30 days. That means one chew or spot-on application keeps your pet covered against multiple parasites for an entire month. To maintain continuous protection (especially against heartworm, which can be life-threatening) it’s important to administer NexGard Spectra on the same date every month. Setting a recurring reminder or using a treatment calendar can help keep your pet’s parasite defence on track year-round.

NexGard Spectra is a broad-spectrum parasite treatment that protects dogs and cats from some of the most common internal and external parasites in Australia. It covers:

• Fleas (kills adult fleas before they can lay eggs)
• Ticks (including paralysis ticks in dogs)
• Mites (such as ear mites and demodex)
• Heartworm (prevents deadly heartworm disease)
• Intestinal worms (including roundworm, hookworm and whipworm)

This all-in-one solution reduces the need for multiple parasite control products and helps simplify your pet’s health routine.

NexGard Spectra combines two powerful active ingredients to target parasites in different ways:

Afoxolaner is absorbed into your pet’s bloodstream and affects the nervous systems of fleas, ticks and mites, killing them quickly after they bite.

Milbemycin oxime works by disrupting the life cycles of internal parasites, including heartworm larvae and intestinal worms, preventing them from developing or surviving.

Because the medication works systemically (via the bloodstream), it provides protection that isn't affected by bathing or swimming once fully absorbed.

NexGard Spectra begins acting within 6 to 8 hours of administration, rapidly killing fleas before they can lay eggs. Most fleas are eliminated within 24 hours, helping to break the flea life cycle and reduce infestations.

For intestinal worms, mites and heartworm prevention, the medication starts working shortly after it enters your pet’s system. Monthly, consistent use is key for long-term effectiveness, especially for preventing heartworm, which requires proactive monthly protection rather than treatment after infection.

Choosing the correct NexGard Spectra size depends on your pet’s weight. Each option delivers a precise dose to ensure both safety and effectiveness — too little may not fully protect them, and too much could cause unwanted reactions.

For dogs, NexGard Spectra is available in several weight-based chews:

• Very Small Dogs (2–3.5 kg)
• Small Dogs (3.6–7.5 kg)
• Medium Dogs (7.6–15 kg)
• Large Dogs (15.1–30 kg)
• Extra Large Dogs (30.1–60 kg)

If your dog weighs over 60 kg, talk to your vet about combining doses to ensure correct coverage.

For cats, NexGard Spectra is a spot‑on treatment and comes in two sizes:

• Small Cats & Kittens (0.8–2.4 kg) – 0.3 mL applicator for kittens and petite adults.
• Medium/Large Cats (2.5–7.5 kg) – 0.9 mL applicator for bigger cats.

For cats over 7.5 kg, use multiple applicators to reach the correct dose.
